About
My name is Barney Pell Scholes, I am an award-winning scriptwriter and filmmaker originally from Liverpool, now living in London.
I won the 2023 Pears Short Film Fund at UK Jewish Film for my film The Soldier on Smithdown Road. I co-wrote Grown in the Dark, an animated short film, which won the 2022 BFI Short Film Fund. My first short film, Ourselves Alone, was selected for multiple UK and international film festivals.

I have lived in South West London since 2013. I love it for many reasons, but mainly because the river offers an easy escape route in case of a zombie apocalypse. After a five-year career in politics, I began focusing more intensively on scriptwriting, something I had always enjoyed. I often collaborate with my oldest friend and fellow filmmaker Thomas Harnett O'Meara on projects.
I am also a script & book reader for the BFI as well as for major production companies, a published film & television critic, and I provide script research & editing services.
